RISD Cry
As seen on Instagram at @RISD.cry, this is a beautiful project by student Yimiao Wang.
In geography circles, the term ‘psycho-geography’ is used to explore the geography of emotion and feeling and this original book and folded pull out map are a beautiful way of exploring the pressure, stress, heartbreak and loneliness of being an artist at a competitive and prestigious art school.
Each booklet contains original illustrations of places on campus where the author and her fellow students have cried. It’s an act of vulnerability and solidarity with other students who are at times overwhelmed by the pressure and exhaustion of professionalized creativity and perhaps an indictment of the institution that requires so much of its students. A thoughtful and rare work that is as beautiful as it is provocative.
